"I had been on a discouraging quest to find a dentist who could help me improve my smile. I was also quite unhappy with the appearance of my teeth. There was a large gap between the two in the front. My teeth were also small and you could hardly see them when I smiled. One dentist tried to disguise the gap by bonding my two front teeth. This worked for a short period of time, but they soon became discolored. I visited a second dentist and he removed the bonding and tried to close the gap with braces. I wore the first set of braces for two years. When these did not do the job, a second set of braces were applied to my teeth and I wore them for three years. When the braces were removed, my teeth were noticeably discolored and I still had a gap between my two front teeth.

"I had received a newsletter from Dr. Gorman and decided to try his office for my next six-month cleaning. Once my teeth were cleaned, Dr. Gorman met with me and listened to my concerns that I had with my smile. He suggested I consider improving the appearance of my teeth with porcelain veneers. The porcelain restorations would whiten my teeth and closed the noticeable gap. I had seen this performed on the Extreme Makeover programs on TV, but had never considered this for myself. I shared this suggestion with my mother and she quickly offered to pay half as a combined Christmas and birthday gift. Her offer was all I needed to make my next appointment.

"Prior to finding Dr. Gorman, I was unhappy with the appearance of my teeth for a very long time. The old metal crowns that had been placed on my front teeth were showing the silver of the metal when I smiled. They had been restored because the color of my front teeth had become gray.

"Before I left my job in New York to move to Atlanta, I mentioned that I was going to move and a colleague of mine encouraged me to become a patient of Dr. Gorman's dental practice. I thought that a referral to an Atlanta dentist while still living in New York was a good sign, so I made an appointment right after I moved.

"Most of my upper arch dental restorations needed to be replaced. Dr. Gorman not only performed these procedures but also replaced all of the old silver amalgams during the same dental appointment. "When I was younger, my two front teeth had fractured and bonding was placed over the enamel to strengthen my teeth. As the bonding wore, it would discolor and eventually chip. This often occurred at times when it was incredibly inconvenient and led to situations that made me feel embarrassed. I had also tried to whiten my teeth, but the bonding material did not whiten and this gave my teeth an uneven color.

"I finally got tired of replacing the bonding on these teeth and asked Dr. Gorman about using restorative material that was more predictable and was aesthetically pleasing. I had looked at pictures of restored smiles in Dr. Gorman's waiting room and wanted my smile to look like the ones that I had seen. When Dr. Gorman shared that porcelain restorations would improve the appearance of my teeth, I agreed that I would begin with four on my upper front teeth. Once these were placed, they looked really great. However, within six months I found that I wanted to restore the remaining upper teeth to the beauty of the first four. Dr. Gorman had originally suggested this and it was time to take his recommendation. He then restored the remaining six teeth with porcelain restorations and my smile became incredible!

I suppose that I could have chosen a dentist who was located closer to my home, but I am not convinced that I would have ended up with the smile that I love dearly today.
